In usbboot/src/Makefile.am are the following lines:

prefix = /usr
datadir = /usr/share/xburst-tools

These override the paths set by "configure", which is 
confusing and inconvenient for the user. For example, I put things I 
install from source in /usr/local, leaving /usr to the package 
manager, to avoid conflicts between installs from binaries and 
installs from source. The "configure" script said it would 
install to /usr/local, but "make install" put the files in 
/usr instead.
